FMST families,
I am proud to announce the 2016 Coaching Team. You will see form the Bios below, that we have formulated a team comprising a great depth of experience. We look forward to developing all swimmers, while continuing FMST’s great traditions of fun, team spirit and camaraderie. It’s going to be a great season this year!

Head Coach – Leanne: Leanne has four years’ experience as Head and Assistant Coach of a summer swim team. She has also instructed Learn to Swim lessons and conducted private swim tuition. Through this Leanne has instructed toddlers, children aged 5-18 years, and adults competing in triathlons.

Assistant Coach – Stephanie Romano: Stephanie was recently an Assistant Coach for Crosby Crossing Swim Team in Catonsville, MD and has provided group and private swim lessons to children aged 5+ through the Retriever Aquatic Club at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC).

As an age-group swimmer, Stephanie swam for Nation’s Capital Swim Club year round, and FMST for eight summers. Her high school swimming achievements include two All Meet Honorable Mentions, two-time Virginia State Meet finalist (200 and 500 Free), and receiving the Fort Myer Koran Award in 2012. In college swimming, she was named to the America East Honor Roll, and she was a three-time conference finalist in the America East in the 200, 500, and 1650 Free.

A graduate from Yorktown High School, Stephanie is currently studying at UMBC, majoring in History with a Certificate in Secondary Education. Stephanie is a certified Lifeguard.

Assistant Coach – Abby Fry: Abby Fry currently coaches at Lou Sharp’s Competition Swim Clinic (CSC). In her fourth year of coaching at CSC, Abby is responsible for children 8 and under in the developmental swim program. Abby specializes in a “hands-on” teaching method, enabling young swimmers to quickly progress with an efficient, “legal” swim technique in all four strokes.

In her free time, Abby enjoys cross-country running, theatre, and beekeeping. Abby is a previous Squid of seven years, and looks forward to coaching FMST’s Developmental Squad. Abby is a certified Lifeguard.

Assistant Coach – Julie Blaharski: Julie is currently the Office and HR Manager for a Maryland wholesale business, and was a full-time nanny for a prominent FMST family for two years. Julie swam competitively throughout her school years and was Swim Team captain during all four years of high school, where she was awarded Most Valuable Player, and competed in Michigan State finals.

Julie swam for Saint Mary’s College of Notre Dame, and trained with the Notre Dame Water Polo Team. Since college, Julie has taught swim lessons and stroke development to local children. Being an experienced child-carer and swimmer, Julie looks forward making a big contribution to the success of young Squids in future seasons. Julie is Lifeguard certified.
