New Squids Season

Dear Parents and Squids:

With the unseasonably warm and dry Spring in full swing, the pool water temps are hovering around a balmy 60 degrees. Perfect temps for fast swim times. The lane lines are set, and the backstroke flags are installed. Almost feels like summer, and ours starts in (12) days.

Welcome to FMST,

We have a new coach and staff, some new procedures, but mostly a planned season of tradition, hard swimming, team sprit and good sportsmanship. Expect a few emails from various committee members over the coming weeks, since there is much information to provide to make new and returning parents aware of things to come.

Please visit the website, as it contains almost everything you could possibly need to know. In the event you still have questions, we will have board members present during each practice session of the first week, starting May 31, 2016, to answer questions. If you are new and you are not clear on A vs. B meets, what pancake breakfast is, what little and bigs are, how to purchase Squid gear,  how to sign up to volunteer (requirement), that will be a time to ask.

Make sure you have provided us with your pool pass number, O Club illegible or not, and liability waivers for each swimmer, before the first day of practice, or you child may not practice.

I have sat through many board meetings this off season, and have heard and seen the amount of planning and preparation Coach L and staff have put into our upcoming season. I am confident they will provide your child(dren) with excellent coaching, whether new to swimming or seasoned veteran. You will hear from Coach in the coming days, and I will let her introduce herself and her staff to you, and lay out her plan and expectations for this summer. Pay particular attention to her communications, since she is in charge.

It's not all business with the Squids however, we have a family picnic, team photo, a pancake breakfast, a family fun meet, and of course our end of season "Banquid".  Many other social gatherings are in the works, stand by for more on those.

If you would like to get more involved with the administration of Fort Myer swimming, we are alway looking for new members to the executive board and various committees necessary to run this team. Talk to any committee or board member, and we'll get you involved. Lastly, I want to stress that none of the meets or social events can exist without parental participation, so when you start getting bombarded with volunteer sign up requests, please realize that we literally need all hands on deck to make these event successful.

Again, I want to welcome all new and returning members to the FT Myer swim team. We have planned a great season for you and your family, and hope you take advantage of all that this summer program has to offer. See you on deck.
