Important info on Squids IT for this season

Hello FMST families,

For those that don’t know me, I’m a Squids dad and resident FMST computer geek. Our team relies heavily on technology to push information out to families, to coordinate swim meets, and to make your swimmer’s information available to you. I’d like to share with you these tools so that you’ll be ready for the upcoming season. Most of this information is on our web site, so make sure to go to

Communicating With Parents

Our primary communications mechanism is via our Squids listserv (we use Google Groups). To subscribe additional email addresses to the list, just send an email from that account to: (make sure to include the plus sign). Some parents have reported that our emails go to their SPAM folder so please make sure that our group email address ( is allowed to send you messages. Coaches, Board members, and committee members are allowed to send to this group. Your replies will only go to the sender.

Pool Closings & Alerts (new for 2016!)

New this season, FMST will use RainedOut to push text messages for emergency notifications such as pool closings due to thunder. It’s easy to sign-up for these alerts. From your mobile phone, just text the word SQUIDS to 84483. Arlington also uses this system to send alerts regarding field closings. Check out our "Stay Informed" page at:

In-Meet Results with Meet Mobile

During most A & B meets, our computer operations team will push the results from each event out to the Internet, as the meet progresses. The company that makes the software that the league uses to manage swim meets also sells a smartphone app that allows you to view these results - Meet Mobile. Swim Manager for B-Meet sign-ups, volunteering, and swimmer results

We use Active Network’s Swim Manager to allow parents to register their swimmers for B-Meets, as well as to select volunteer jobs for each meet. This portal will also allow you to track your swimmer's performance throughout the season. The URL to access Swim Manager is:

FMST Team Directory

Swim Manager also publishes the team directory to FMST families. Those families that checked the box during registration to be added to the team directory will be listed there. Just login to Swim Manager, click on “Team” from the top menu, and select the “Fort Myer Swim Team Summer Season 2016” from the drop-down list.

Calling out to other computer volunteers…..

I’m always looking for people to help me with computer operations. This includes entering times into the computer during meets, pasting labels on ribbons, processing timecards during meets, etc… If you’re interested, please let me know.
