Dear Squid Families,

Happy New Year. By now I’m sure you have heard that our longtime coach, Coach Kristina (Coach “K”), will not be returning this summer due to her family expansion plans. Congratulations to Coach “K” and her husband Michael! The board has been hard at work planning for the summer season. With three board meetings behind us, and more to come in preparation for the 2016 season, we are excited to announce some changes.

As always, we need your help to make the season run smoothly. All hands on deck for 2016.

Coaching for 2016
First and foremost, it is my pleasure to announce Head Coach Leanne.  She has been a private Swim Instructor, and she is certified as a level (2) USA Swimming Coach. She has also been assisting with the local Competition Swim Clinic, which many of you are familiar with.

Her commitment to this team has been outstanding, and her organizational skills will lend themselves well to managing this team. I will work with Coach to finalize decisions on an Assistant and Junior Coaches. More on that once finalized.

Registration (NEW THIS YEAR)
Registration will be conducted in (2) waves:
  • All Returning Families: April 1, 2016 through April 15, 2016 (4/1 - 4/15)
  • New Registrations: April 16, 2016 through May 14, 2016 (4/16 - 5/14)
Returning families can still register during the New Registration period. May 14, 2016 is a hard close, so please get your registrations in early. (Some exceptions will be made for new active duty military families on a case by case basis)

Registration costs per family will be:
  • 1 swimmer: $215
  • 2 swimmers: $365.50
  • 3 or more swimmers: $500.95
Prior to your child being able to swim (on day one, no exceptions) you must provide us with your Fort Myer Officers' Club membership number. Officers' Club membership is not optional if you are eligible. Ideally you will provide that information to us at time of registration. Board members will be on site during the first week to confirm compliance, and answer any questions. The Officers Club has already started issuing membership cards, so please don’t wait until April.

Please visit http://www.jbmhhmwr.com/fort-myer-officers%E2%80%99-club for Officers' Club membership information and pricing.

If you are ineligible to join the Officers' Club, you will be assessed an additional fee of $25. This is a mandatory Fort Myer Officers' Club Fee, not a swim team fee.  Please note that we are limited to 10% ineligible members. If you have any questions regarding team eligibility requirements, please check out the FMST web site at: http://www.fortmyersquids.com/about-us/team-eligibility.

Base Access
There are stricter base access rules in place for 2016. Please review the Base Access information on our web site at: http://www.fortmyersquids.com/about-us/base-access

Officials
We need more certified Officials for Stroke and Turn (S&T), Starters, and Referees. Fort Myer is hosting an Officials Training clinic on May 7, 2016 from 07:30 to 12:00. As an official, you get front row seats at each meet, and you will easily fulfill your volunteer requirements (more on that as the season approaches). If you have any questions about becoming an official or what is involved, our Team Representative (Graeme) will be happy to answer your questions.  Or go to our Officials section of the website (http://www.fortmyersquids.com/officials).

Sincerely Chris Spranger,
FMST President
