FMST Parents,

What an incredible meet today! While Cascades beat us narrowly on points, there were so many incredible swims from our super Squids (results attached). Highlights include:

  • A new Team Record. Charleston Couture beat her own Girls 11-12 50 Breast Team Record by 0.2 seconds.
  • All-event winners. Nora Sherman and Zach Berner won all three of their individual events today.
  • League Leaders
    • Zach Berner was League Leader in Boys 9-10 50m Back since our meet with BCP.
    • Charleston Couture is League Leader in Girls 11-12 50m Breast.
    • Cyrus Beauvais is League Leader in Boys 9-10 50m Breast.
Several other FMST swimmers are within but fractions of seconds of League Leader. See http://csl.nvblu.com/plasma/core/site/csl
  • Improved times. A huge 71% of our competing swimmers achieved new PBs today. Again, many swimmers improved in multiple events. Stand-outs include:
    • Cyrus Beauvais, Haley Couture and Duncan Mook - improved in all three of their there individual events today.
    • Sarah Grace Rogers - Improved her 11-12 Fly time by HUGE 1.75 seconds and forged a 1,2 finish for Fort Myer. During this race Sarah Grace breathed only every 4 strokes. This was a perfect example of planning the race and racing to the plan.
    • Amelia Anderson - a massive 3+ second improvement in 8u Backstroke.
  • Relays. Today was THE best relay performance by Fort Myer this year. Out of the eight Medley Relays on offer, FMST won four - that is an incredible improvement from winning zero relays at our last two A-meets:
    • Girls 8U Medley Relay (Lula Tankersley, Lila Sherman, Paige Haydasz, Willa McCarthy).
    • Boys 9-10 Medley Relay (Zach Berner, Jonathon Malatesta, Cyrus Beauvais, Oliver Andress) provided a convincing win.
    • Girls 9-10 Medley Relay (Nora Sherman, Bridget Chinn, Sydney Payne, Madeleine) - 1:23.09 to 1:24.03. A great finis.h!
    • Girls 11-12 Medley Relay (Kayla Villescas, Charleston Couture, Beauvais Anais, Sarah Grace Rogers) - at 2:26.63 to 2:26.76. Well done girls - that's true grit!!!
  • DQs. There were only seven DQs today. That is a great improvement from sixteen and nine DQs respectively at our last two A-meets

Other things that made my day today:
  • Cheering. I am certain that today's cheering helped us achieve great things today, especially in our relays. A big thanks to all of our seniors for coordinating and leading the cheers. An especially big thanks to Katy Moore for leading cheers with the cow bell - I love it!! Also a big thanks to Jack St. Pierre for leading the most passionate cheers I've seen. That's true spirit - well done Jack!
  • Clerk of Course. Here's a  long-overdue thank you to Caroline Zervos for her tireless work in Clerk of Course. Caroline worked solidly for almost three hours, in very trying conditions to ensure all swimmers got to their events. Thank you Caroline!

Again, thank you for a some very courageous performances, resulting in a great meet today

Please note:
  • Relay Carnival. The Relay Carnival will be held at Sugarland Run on Sunday July 17th, 0800-1200 hrs. If your swimmers have been in the A-meet Relays and you are not available next Sunday, please let me know as soon as possible. The FMST Relay Carnival line-up will be released tomorrow.
  • Team swimsuit. No team suit = no swim at all future events (including A-meets, B-meet, Rely Carnival, Divisionals and All Stars). NO EXCEPTIONS. Without compunction I will remove swimmers from meets if they do not comply.
  • Warm-ups. Please get to warm-up on time. Last minutes changes to the line-up have to be finalized during the warm-up period. If you do not arrive by the start of warm-ups, I will need to replace you in the meet line-up.
