posted Jul 10, 2016, 7:08 AM by Fort Myer Swim Team   [ updated Apr 2, 2017, 7:14 PM by Mark Tramontozzi ]

Good morning parents,

Action is required by 6pm on Tuesday, so please read this whole note!

The third B-meet of the season is this Wednesday night at home against the Saratoga Stingrays. If your swimmer would like to swim on Wednesday, you MUST tell us which events (see below) by 6pm on Tuesday

The order of events is a little different this week. We will be swimming breast, fly, free, back, and IM (time permitting).

Reminders about B-Meets
  • Swimmers can only swim a maximum of 3 events + IM
  • Swimmers cannot race an event for which they placed first, second, or third at the prior A-Meet
  • 8&u swimmers must get approval from coach to swim IMs

How to sign-up your swimmer for B-meet races
To pick which events your swimmer would like to swim:
  1. Login to Swim Portal (https://swimportal.active.com/?a=283358602) using the email address that you used to register your swimmer (very important)
  2. At the top of the page, click "View Meets"
  3. Scroll down to "B-Meet SAR@FM"
  4. Click the "Attending" round circle which will list all the events that your swimmer can swim
  5. Check the box for up to 3 events + IM for events that your swimmer wants to swim (8&under swimmers need coach's approval for IMs)
  6. Click the "Save" button

Calling on volunteers!
Volunteer registration is also open for the B-Meet. Please use this link (https://vmodcui.active.com/volunteer/jobs?eventGroupId=442304) to sign-up for volunteer jobs.

Coach will be sending out logistics about Wednesday's meet later this week.

Go Squids!

TIE-DYE EXTRAVAGANZA II!!

If you missed last week's tie-dye event, we'll be repeating the fun this Monday morning after each practice. We'll be up next to the snack bar!

**There should be enough dye for a second time around, but precedence will go first to those who have not already made one.

Bring a white cotton t-shirt and see you Monday morning!

FMST Pancake Breakfast

posted Jul 10, 2016, 7:06 AM by Fort Myer Swim Team   [ updated Apr 2, 2017, 7:16 PM by Mark Tramontozzi ]

Hello FMST Parents,

Just a reminder that our PANCAKE BREAKFAST and BOWLING event is this Tuesday, July 12!

We will have three sessions, each right after practice over at the Fort Myer Bowling Alley.

First Session: 8:15-9:15am
Second Session: 9:15-10:15am
Third Session:10:15-11:15am

The event is $10 per swimmer, which includes pancake breakfast, bowling shoes and two games. There is no need to worry about the exact time frame of the bowling, as there is always overlap between groups.

Parents in the past years have generously volunteered to help with checking the swimmers in, monitoring the breakfast room and supervising the swimmers while bowling. We also have supplied the kitchen staff with blueberries and chocolate chips. ** Please see the sign-up below for volunteer opportunities.

All swimmers under the age of 12 should be supervised by their parent or guardian. Also, don't  forget to bring a pair of socks!

**Please reply to this message with number of swimmers in your family attending, as well as their practice time. This will help in the preparation of pancakes, as well, in reserving the proper amount of bowling lanes.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the bowling alley on Tuesday!

A-meet 3: CAS@FM - Recap

posted Jul 10, 2016, 7:05 AM by Fort Myer Swim Team   [ updated Apr 2, 2017, 7:13 PM by Mark Tramontozzi ]

FMST Parents,

What an incredible meet today! While Cascades beat us narrowly on points, there were so many incredible swims from our super Squids (results attached). Highlights include:

  • A new Team Record. Charleston Couture beat her own Girls 11-12 50 Breast Team Record by 0.2 seconds.
  • All-event winners. Nora Sherman and Zach Berner won all three of their individual events today.
  • League Leaders
    • Zach Berner was League Leader in Boys 9-10 50m Back since our meet with BCP.
    • Charleston Couture is League Leader in Girls 11-12 50m Breast.
    • Cyrus Beauvais is League Leader in Boys 9-10 50m Breast.
Several other FMST swimmers are within but fractions of seconds of League Leader. See http://csl.nvblu.com/plasma/core/site/csl
  • Improved times. A huge 71% of our competing swimmers achieved new PBs today. Again, many swimmers improved in multiple events. Stand-outs include:
    • Cyrus Beauvais, Haley Couture and Duncan Mook - improved in all three of their there individual events today.
    • Sarah Grace Rogers - Improved her 11-12 Fly time by HUGE 1.75 seconds and forged a 1,2 finish for Fort Myer. During this race Sarah Grace breathed only every 4 strokes. This was a perfect example of planning the race and racing to the plan.
    • Amelia Anderson - a massive 3+ second improvement in 8u Backstroke.
  • Relays. Today was THE best relay performance by Fort Myer this year. Out of the eight Medley Relays on offer, FMST won four - that is an incredible improvement from winning zero relays at our last two A-meets:
    • Girls 8U Medley Relay (Lula Tankersley, Lila Sherman, Paige Haydasz, Willa McCarthy).
    • Boys 9-10 Medley Relay (Zach Berner, Jonathon Malatesta, Cyrus Beauvais, Oliver Andress) provided a convincing win.
    • Girls 9-10 Medley Relay (Nora Sherman, Bridget Chinn, Sydney Payne, Madeleine) - 1:23.09 to 1:24.03. A great finis.h!
    • Girls 11-12 Medley Relay (Kayla Villescas, Charleston Couture, Beauvais Anais, Sarah Grace Rogers) - at 2:26.63 to 2:26.76. Well done girls - that's true grit!!!
  • DQs. There were only seven DQs today. That is a great improvement from sixteen and nine DQs respectively at our last two A-meets

Other things that made my day today:
  • Cheering. I am certain that today's cheering helped us achieve great things today, especially in our relays. A big thanks to all of our seniors for coordinating and leading the cheers. An especially big thanks to Katy Moore for leading cheers with the cow bell - I love it!! Also a big thanks to Jack St. Pierre for leading the most passionate cheers I've seen. That's true spirit - well done Jack!
  • Clerk of Course. Here's a  long-overdue thank you to Caroline Zervos for her tireless work in Clerk of Course. Caroline worked solidly for almost three hours, in very trying conditions to ensure all swimmers got to their events. Thank you Caroline!

Again, thank you for a some very courageous performances, resulting in a great meet today

Please note:
  • Relay Carnival. The Relay Carnival will be held at Sugarland Run on Sunday July 17th, 0800-1200 hrs. If your swimmers have been in the A-meet Relays and you are not available next Sunday, please let me know as soon as possible. The FMST Relay Carnival line-up will be released tomorrow.
  • Team swimsuit. No team suit = no swim at all future events (including A-meets, B-meet, Rely Carnival, Divisionals and All Stars). NO EXCEPTIONS. Without compunction I will remove swimmers from meets if they do not comply.
  • Warm-ups. Please get to warm-up on time. Last minutes changes to the line-up have to be finalized during the warm-up period. If you do not arrive by the start of warm-ups, I will need to replace you in the meet line-up.

A-meet 3: CAS@FM - Saturday 07/09 - line-up and meet info

posted Jul 8, 2016, 4:34 AM by Fort Myer Swim Team   [ updated Apr 2, 2017, 7:13 PM by Mark Tramontozzi ]

FMST Parents,

This Saturday's home A-meet is going to be an extremely close competition - only a few points will separate Cascades and FMST. This is our meet to win, and we have a good chance, but to do so we need EVERY swimmer to give it their all. If we can win an extra relay or two, and score some additional points in a few individual events, we WILL win the meet.

The line-up was sent out via Google Groups on Thursday night. If your swimmer is on the line-up, but is not available, please advise me ASAP.

Please note:

  • At the meet, ensure your swimmer gets to their event. We cannot afford any empty lanes.
  • Cheering is they key - especially during the relays. Please stay until the end and loudly cheer your team to a win.
  • Don't forget the Hawaiian theme for Saturday;
  • Volunteers are essential - please consider volunteering (https://vmodcui.active.com/volunteer/jobs?eventGroupId=459201); and

Remember - no training Friday for A-meet swimmers. If you have young exhibition swimmers that do not train on Wednesday, you may bring them to training on Friday.

Below is information including timings and more.

*Officials Meeting: 0730 h at the 25m pool pump house

**Timers Meeting: 0740 h at the 50m pool fence near the gazebo

Setup Locations

Our team's setup area is on the grassy slope overlooking the gazebo. The visiting team will set up on the grass surrounding the gazebo (between the 25m & 50m pools). The café area and the adjacent hill is a communal area.

See you at the pool!

B-meet 2 - C@FM Recap

posted Jul 8, 2016, 4:31 AM by Fort Myer Swim Team   [ updated Apr 2, 2017, 7:14 PM by Mark Tramontozzi ]

Hi parents,

A quick recap from last night's home B-meet against Chinquapin. It was a great meet - we got through ALL of our individual events and IMs. A big thanks to all who volunteered for making this possible.

Key points:

  • Strong swims. I saw many Fort Myer swimmers toughing it out in the last few yards to hold off the competition. Great to see.
  • Improved times. A HUGE 81 Fort Myer swimmers improved their times last night - some by a large margin and in multiple events. It is so great to see improvements across all ages and abilities (Improved times report attached).
  • DQs. There were relatively few DQs considering how many young swimmers entered Breast and Fly events. Well done.

This Saturday's A-meet will be a very tight contest - I will publish the line-up this evening. Please ensure you have completed the A-meet availability form, even if you are not regular A-meet swimmers (there will be exhibition swims). If your availability has changed, please complete the form again  - it only takes 20 seconds: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1-CUYk4sEJyQcUpuUHpz0qqCt3DfYQr8Uou6KZw7zP3o/viewform

Hi there fellow Squid Tie-Dyers!

What a great time this morning! Thank you to all the parents who dove right in to help out with the tie dying. It wouldn't have been a success without you all!

A big thank you also to fellow squid, Kyle Jackson, our tie-dyer extraordinaire, who helped out before heading over to work!

If anyone missed out this morning, we are going to repeat the fun next Monday, same time same place!

Can't wait to see all the results at next Wednesday's B Meet, when we all dress up in our tie-dye!

See you all tonight,
Maureen McDonough

Ft. Myer Swim Team Gear/Online Store

Dear Families,

I wanted to give you an update on the Spirit Wear.

For those of you who purchased a red T-shirt on or before June 25th, we have identified that the manufacture made an error in setting the print and your shirt may have faded in the wash.  If that is the case, I would like you to bring your faded shirt to one of our home meets and you will be given a new shirt that has been reprinted.  I will let you know when the t-shirts have arrived.

Please let me know ASAP if you purchased a white T-shirt with the flag on the back and it has faded. I would like you to send a picture of the faded shirt to my home account at Capitalm@aol.com

Finally,  back by popular demand the FMST online store will open today and will remain open for one week only. The store will close at midnight on July 12th so don't delay.  Remember, the spirit wear items make great Christmas gifts so shop early.  Please access the online store using the following website:

Production of the items takes approximately two weeks and and items will be available for pick up at practices.

Thank you.
Maureen St. Pierre
