Hi Squids!
Lots of exciting Squid news to report so let me get right to it…
First up, we are going to aim to hold our annual three-pool relay this Friday. We typically try to get all the kids involved and hold it when the two older kids practice overlap (it’s sort of hard for the little guys/8&Us to manage and we’ll do their own fun relay during their practice). We will aim to have that relay begin around 8am. So if you are in the 9/10 and 11/12 practice, please plan on arriving early on Friday! :)
First up, at our Saturday swim meet against the Burke Center Penguins, Cyrus Beauvais broke a long standing 25M breaststroke CSL League record – besting the 27 year old record of 21.15 with a new, super fast time of 20.40. Congrats, Cy! Keeping it in the family, older sister, Ana Beauvais also destroyed a 35 year old FMST record of 40.08 in the 11/12 girls 50 breaststroke with a new time of 38.93. Congrats, Ana! Finally, our girls 15/18 Medley Relay broke a 2012 FMST record of 2:13.17 with a new time of 2:11.24 – Congrats to Caroline ON, Katie Moore, Izzy Mowery, and Mariah Bowman!
On Sunday FMST had an awesome Relay Carnival and was in first place for most of the meet! Ultimately, we tied for second place overall in the Red Division! LOTS of fast swimming happening there too… Our boys 8&U medley relay of Ryan Lee, Cyrus Beauvais, Jonathan Malatesta, and Alex Ousely-Naseman snagged first place overall and are now the current league leaders with their time; our girls 8&U relay of Lila Sherman, Nora Sherman, Maya Ramos, and Hannah Zamary got 3rd overall; our girls 9&10 medley relay of Sarah Grace Rogers, Sally Ann Work, Kaitlin St. Pierre, and Claire Mowery got first place over all; The 13/14 Boys medley relay of Thomas Quinn, Michael DiLeonardo, Jack Mowery, and Matt Richardson dropped TEN seconds from their seed time for 4th place overall; the 15/18 girls medley relay  who were coated in motivational body paint that warned everyone they were their “worst nightmare” – got second place overall by just .93 seconds. :)
Aside from the rocking effort in the Medley Relays our 8&U mixed sex (meaning two boys and two girls) 100 free relay of Nora Sherman, Jonathan Malatesta, Maya Ramos, and Nora Sherman got first overall; our 9&10 mixed sex free relay of Noah ON, Sarah Grace Rogers, Jack Kunkel, and Claire Mowery not only got first overall, but also broke the league relay carnival record and finally, our mixed age/mixed sex (one person from each age group and two boys and two girls) got second overall, just beating out the 3rd place team.

WEDNESDAY B MEET INFORMATION – AT Chinquapin, please arrive at 515pm
Our last official Wednesday swim meet is tomorrow against the Chinquapin Wahoos. Our warmups will start at 530pm. The theme is Tie-Dye!
The order of this meet will be FLY, free, back, breast. We will aim to get IMs in if time and weather permit. As a reminder, IMs count as official events at Divisionals so please try to get a time on the books so we know what we’re working with for lineup development. Thanks!
The address for the pool is:
Old Town Pool (not the one near TC Williams High School)
1609 Cameron Street
Alexandria, VA 22314
SATURDAY A MEET – Seniors and Pictures
As is the FMST tradition, we will be honoring our graduating seniors at our last home meet this weekend. We ask that everyone bring some flowers (either from your garden or from a store – whatever works) to be contributed to a large bouquet for our ONE senior, Mariah Bowman. Also, if you are one of her “littles” this year or from previous years, we will ask you to come down on deck to help us send her off.
As a reminder, our team picture will be on Saturday following the conclusion of the meet. If you aren’t swimming/able to come for the meet, the picture will probably get underway around 11am or so. Please plan to arrive by 1030am and we’ll get everyone lined up and situated!
PRACTICE SCHEDULE for Divisionals and All Stars
As a reminder, this week will be our last week of regular season practice. After that, only kids swimming in Divisionals will be required to attend practice and our practice times will shift a bit. You can expect that if your swimmer typically swims in Saturday A Meets, they will likely be in Divisionals. We plan to get that lineup out over the weekend, so please let me know if you aren’t available for the Divisionals meet.
Divisionals practices will be held:
7am – 815am, ages 13 and older
815am – 915am, ages 12 and under
*again, only kids swimming in Divisionals should attend, as practices will be geared more towards that ability level.
Also, as a reminder, only kids who swim in Divisionals are able to qualify for the All Star meet – that qualification is earned by your place in the Divisionals meet. After all four of the Divisional meets are completed, the league will rack and stack the results and kids who placed in the top 15 or so (sometimes more) qualify for the All Star meet. No earlier/previous times can count for All Stars – only your swim/times from the Divisionals meet that year.
All Star Practice will be held:
730am – 830am
You should have received the info about the upcoming Banquid – including the link to volunteer and sign up. Some folks have asked me about attire. Typically, people dress to impress, but anything (aside from athletic or workout-type gear) is welcome. If you have any questions, check in with Kathy Jackson.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns - just let me know!
