All Stars Info!

posted Jul 26, 2015, 5:58 AM by Mark Tramontozzi   [ updated Jan 23, 2016, 9:22 AM by Fort Myer Swim Team ]

Hey there Squids,
Congrats to ALL our Divisionals swimmers for a great meet today - we had a lot of best times, a few new records, and tons of fun... with NO rain!

On the records front, Congrats to Claire Mowery who (again) lowered her previous record in the 100 IM, Caroline ON for (again) breaking her own 50 back record, and to Katie Moore who (for the first time!) broke the 15/18 girls 50 Breast record, held since 1988! GO SQUIDS!

UPCOMING EVENTS
Can't wait to see you all looking sharp at the Banquid on Tuesday night.
Also, if you haven't purchased your tickets for the Squids Night Out at the Movies (at the Cinema Drafthouse) - do that now! It's going to be a super fun night!

ALL STARS INFO
FIRST, everyone on this list should be super proud of your swimming today, regardless of your place! Everyone did a great job representing FMST!

Before you open the list... few things to know:
Your overall league ranking is the number to the left of your name.
If you are placed 1-18, you are definitely slated to swim in All Stars!
Places 19-21 are Alternates. We will know by Monday night if you will move into a regular event slot.
The final six places, 22-27, are marked with a 'SB' for 'bubble' -- those swimmers are currently not slated to swim at All Stars, BUT if there are enough scratches, they will move into the event. Again, we'd know by Monday night if that happens.

SO what this means for those on the list: everyone on this list should plan to attend practice on Monday if you are available for All Stars. We will then send out another email on Monday night to let folks know if there have been any changes and what those changes might mean for your swimmer. From there, only those swimmers slated to swim in All Stars (or those who are listed as an Alternate) are required to attend practice.

If you are not available for All Stars as a swimmer, alternate, or 'bubble' squid - let us know ASAP.
We must report this at the scratch meeting tomorrow night. (Kennedy's, I already know your status - safe travels!)

More info on All Stars later this week.

PRACTICE
As a reminder, we will hold practice Monday-Friday this week from 730am - 830am for All Star swimmers.

Best,
Coach K

Meet Recap, DIVISIONALS, and a few things

posted Jul 19, 2015, 7:24 AM by Fort Myer Swim Team   [ updated Jan 23, 2016, 9:25 AM ]

Good Morning Squids!

What a great end to the regular season yesterday! Mrs. Davies has been doing write ups for the local paper each week and I think she summed up our meet best so I'm borrowing some of what she wrote to give you the meet recap from yesterday!

MEET RECAP
In their final week of regular season Colonial Swimming League Red Division competition, the Fort Myer Squids posted a win against the South Riding Stingrays with a score of 228-216.  After two different lead changes and trading individual race wins back and forth, the final outcome of the meet would be decided during the relays when the Squid Girls' Mixed 200 Free Relay topped the Stingray Mixed Girls for the overall win. Mariah Bowman, in her last regular season race as a member of the FMST Squids, anchored the relay for the win!

In the records department, Cyrus Beauvais, 8&U, bested his record from one week prior for ANOTHER (new) Colonial Swimming League record in the 25 Breaststroke.  Anais Beauvais also improved her own FMST record in the Girls 11-12 50 Breaststroke.

Congrats everyone - what a great meet! We especially enjoyed playing in the pool after the picture... in our clothes... :)

DIVISIONALS - July 25th at Cascades
The Divisionals lineup were sent out via team Google Group. Only kids who are slated to swim are listed (so you won't see your kids name on the lineup unless they are slated to swim). If you see your Squid is slated to swim and you are not able to attend, please let me know ASAP - no later then 8pm tonight. Our lineup is due to the Divisionals host tomorrow.

Address of the pool is:
20670 Fernbank Ct.
Potomac Falls, VA

Our warmup time is 725am, so please plan to arrive by 7am. We will be in lane 3, 4, and 5 for our warmup.
Families that have tents and chairs - please bring them. Attached is the full meet information, including maps.
Also, if you Squid is swimming and you are able/willing to volunteer - please go to this link to sign up!

Just by way of background, since we have so many new families this season, there are a few factors that go into the Divisionals lineup development that are a little different than how we approach regular season meets. First, we are still bound by the same entry limits that we have for regular dual meets, but the IM becomes a scored event in place of the relays. Those limits are: 3 entries per team, per event and no individual may swim more than 3 events in total. Second, when we move into the Championship portion of the season (as with other teams, including High School) the focus shifts away from 'team wins' to advancing as many individuals as we can to the Championships meets (All Stars, in our case; Regionals and States in the case of High School - just as an example).

With that in mind, we start with the rack and stack ladder of everyone's best times that have been clocked throughout the entire season. Then we look at where our kids stack up with their times against the entire league. That gives us an indication of their chances of advancing on to All Stars. We put kids in the events that they have the best chance of advancing in. If you're interested to see if your kids make it into the league leaders (usually top 25 or so) - you can check here: http://csl.nvblu.com/leaders.html?sel_lg=4

All Stars will have the fastest swimmers from across the entire League - not just our Division. But again, you can not use any previously recorded time to qualify, ONLY the time you swim at Divisionals. Finally, the overall standings for our Division are decided by other factors and not by the outcome of Divisionals. In addition, individual age groups can 'win' in the Division based on their overall wins/losses throughout the regular dual meet season. The league computer folks are tracking that over the summer. We will find out which age groups win at the Divisionals meet and then we will present those trophies to the entire age group at the Banquid.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE
As a reminder, Divisionals practices will be held this week:
7am – 815am, ages 13 and older
815am – 915am, ages 12 and under

EXTRAS
Lots of fun things coming up for the Squids - the Family Fun Meet, the Banquid, the Movie Night at the Drafthouse (how cool!). Look forward to seeing you all at these great social events as we finish out the season!

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns - let me know!

Best,
Coach Kristina

Last Home Meet, Senior Sendoff, Picture, Gear, and Next Week!

posted Jul 19, 2015, 7:21 AM by Fort Myer Swim Team   [ updated Jan 23, 2016, 9:24 AM ]

Hi Squids!

I can’t believe that our last regular season meet is upon us! My how time flies when you’re singing…I mean, swimming, in the rain… :)

As a reminder, we are going to aim to hold our annual three-pool relay this Friday. We typically try to get all the kids involved and hold it when the two older kids practice overlap (it’s sort of hard for the little guys/8&Us to manage and we’ll do their own fun relay during their practice). We will aim to have the three pool relay begin around 8am. So if you are in the 9/10 and 11/12 practice, please plan on arriving early on tomorrow (around 745am or so). AAC swimmers from the team that practices in the 50 meter pool during our practice times, does the relays with us too – just a heads up.

SATURDAY A MEET vs South Riding AT Fort Myer
The lineup for this week has been sent out via team Google Group. A few things to note – first up, we are doing something different for exhibitions. We will be swimming exhibitions in Free and Breast for 8&U, 9/10, and 11/12! Cool, huh? Since it’s our last meet, its at home, and it’s not supposed to rain (please keep your fingers crossed!) I have also included some exhibition relays to get more kids in the meet.
If you aren’t able to make the meet and you see your Squid is slated to swim, let me know ASAP so I can give another Squid the chance! Should be a fun and exciting finish to our season!

Please arrive no later than 645am. Theme is 80s! This is your coaches very favorite theme of the season – get your most radical 80s attire out and be ready to show it off.

Our theme photo will be at 650am and warmups will begin at 7am.

SENIOR SWIMMERS and TEAM PIC and GEAR
Again, as is the FMST tradition, we will be honoring our graduating seniors at our last home meet this weekend. We ask that everyone bring some flowers (either from your garden or from a store – whatever works) to be contributed to a large bouquet for our ONE senior, Mariah Bowman. Also, if you are one of her “littles” this year or from previous years, we will ask you to come down on deck to help us send her off. We will do this before the meet begins, so if you aren’t slated to swim, but want to ensure you get to cheer Mariah off, please plan to be there by 750am.

Our team picture will be on Saturday following the conclusion of the meet. If you aren’t swimming/able to come for the meet, the picture will probably get underway around 11am or so. Please plan to arrive around 1030am so we can get things underway.

If you ordered FMST Gear all the orders have come in. Mrs. St. Pierre will be in the parking lot before/during warmups of the meet this Saturday for pick up. She will also be at practice tomorrow if you want to check in with her then instead.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE for Divisionals and All Stars
As a reminder, tomorrow is our last regular season practice. Kids swimming in Divisionals will be required to attend practice and our practice times will shift a bit. You can expect that if your swimmer typically swims in Saturday A Meets, they will likely be in Divisionals. We plan to get that lineup out over the weekend (obviously, no later than Sunday night), so please let me know if you aren’t available for the Divisionals meet.

Divisionals practices will be held:
7am – 815am, ages 13 and older
815am – 915am, ages 12 and under
*again, only kids swimming in Divisionals should attend, as practices will be geared more towards that ability level.

Also, as a reminder, only kids who swim in Divisionals are able to qualify for the All Star meet – that qualification is earned by your place in the Divisionals meet. After all four of the Divisional meets are completed, the league will rack and stack the results and kids who placed in the top 15 or so (sometimes more) qualify for the All Star meet. No earlier/previous times can count for All Stars – only your swim/times from the Divisionals meet that year.

All Star Practice will be held:
730am – 830am

NEXT WEDNESDAY – Family Fun Meet, July 22
More info to follow, but just a reminder that next Wednesday will be our family fun meet. I think I may need to find some of my old swimmers to stand in as my “family members” to ensure I WIN the relay against the Dads this year! Jay DeLancey is back in town and I may even be able to get a few older swimmers of mine too… just saying! :)

Come one, come all and be ready to swim with your family and friends – for bragging rights and for fun!

BANQUID
Don’t forget to RSVP for the Banquid! If you aren’t able to make the event, you may want to coordinate with a friend/neighbor to pick up your swag bags. They include the annual team gift, picture, and any extra ribbons that were missed.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns - just let me know!

Best,
Coach Kristina

Election Committee Needed

posted Jul 19, 2015, 7:20 AM by Fort Myer Swim Team   [ updated Jan 23, 2016, 9:23 AM ]

My emails to you have almost reached an end, so bare with me. The board requests (3) volunteers to run the board election on the evening of the banquet. It's fairly simple actually. There are four board member positions: President, VP, Treasurer, and Secretary. We ask that you create a ballot of those positions to be printed ahead of the banquet for distribution to banquet attendees. You will be given the names of the people seeking election after the Selection Committee has been identified. Man the election box during the banquet, count the ballots, and announce the new board during the banquet.

If you are interested in running for any of these position, please contact any of the current board members.

President- Paul Prevost
VP- Chris Spranger
Secretary- Kathy Jackson
Treasurer- Kathleen Collins-Bell

Motown Banquid Invite

Dear Squids,

Please join us for our annual end-of-season Banquid!  This  year's theme is Motown.

Many of you have inquired about the attire.  Our only requirement is that you adhere to the Officers' Club regulations - basically, no jeans, tank tops, t-shirts, halter tops, cut off shorts, swim wear, athletic wear, or rubber pool shoes.  Many of our swimmers (and their parents) enjoy getting dressed up for the night.  Themed attire is always welcome, but not required!

What is required is an RSVP!  Please follow the link below to RSVP with the number of guests and your food choices (how many chickens, prime ribs, etc.)  All adult meals are $32 and kids' meals are $17.95.  Adults are welcome to order a kids' meal if they wish.

After registering, please send a check to:

Ms. Kathleen Bell
FMST Treasurer
2200 Hall Place, NW
Washington, DC  20007

We look forward to partying with you on Tuesday, July 28!
