Banquid Follow-up

posted Jul 30, 2014, 4:46 AM by Fort Myer Swim Team   [ updated Mar 25, 2015, 7:09 PM by Mark Tramontozzi ]

Thanks again to everyone for a wonderful and fun season. A special thanks to everyone who organized and was involved with the Banquid tonight - it was great!

Congrats to all our award winners!

If you weren't able to make the event tonight, Paul Prevost has all the team gifts/bags/medals/etc. He will be in touch on how to make arrangements to retrieve them.

For those that missed the event, the coaches did their own FMST video this year. Check out the video here:

Have a great rest of the summer, Squids!

Family Fun Meet & T-Shirt Content

posted Jul 22, 2014, 5:49 PM by Fort Myer Swim Team   [ updated Mar 25, 2015, 7:10 PM by Mark Tramontozzi ]

Squid families, just a couple of things to note for this week:

T-shirt Contest
Open to swimmers only. Please submit drawings when you check in at the Banquid. The Board will vote and pick winner at a later date and we will announce the winner by email. Please be sure to put your name on the submission!

The Family Fun Meet
Tomorrow is the family fun meet - beginning at 5:30pm. Families should come prepared to swim relays together (parents and kids!) or with a 'blended' multi-family group. A list of events will be sent tomorrow. Please also bring some extra clothes for the wet clothes relay.

We will be in touch before the start of the event if weather is an issue (by email).

See you tomorrow!

Thank you to all who have registered. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday for our 80's-themed Banquid!

Meet Recap & Divisionals

posted Jul 19, 2014, 1:18 PM by Fort Myer Swim Team   [ updated Mar 25, 2015, 7:11 PM by Mark Tramontozzi ]

What a fun meet today - there were SO many great races with kids improving times left and right (and sneaking in to get first, second, or third when it wasn't expected)! Great finish to a great season!

We have a few records to report today:
  • Ana Beauvais lowered her 50 breast team record from 40.63 to 40.60
  • Caroline Ousley Naseman lowered her 50 back team record from 33.88 to 33.68.
  • In keeping with the 80s theme, the boys 8U Medley relay broke an 80s record (from 1982 to be exact). The old time was 1:29.88 and the new time is 1:29.19!
  • The girls 9/10 relay smashed the team record they set earlier in the season and took back the lead in CSL from Burke Center - their old time 1:16, the new one 1:13.45!
CONGRATS SQUIDS!

DIVISIONALS
The Divisionals lineup has been sent out via FMST email list. Please let your coaches ASAP if you are not able to swim, but are slated to.

This lineup only includes the names of those kids who will be swimming (just FYI if you don't see your kids name listed at all). More info on Divisionals will be sent out next week. For now, just review the lineup and the coaches know if you can't be there.

As a reminder, practice next week is for Divisionals swimmers:
  • 7:15-8:15am: 13 and Older
  • 8:15am-9:15am: 12 and Under
Thanks everyone for a great season! I hope to see you all at the Banquid.

Saturday Swim Meet #5 (and more info)

posted Jul 17, 2014, 2:33 PM by Fort Myer Swim Team   [ updated Mar 25, 2015, 7:11 PM by Mark Tramontozzi ]

Line-ups for Saturday's meet have been sent via the FMST mailing list.
Please note the following: The coaches try their best to give everyone a least one opportunity (either in exhibition or regular events) to swim in a Saturday meet. With the size of our team, that hasn't been easy and the likely wasn't totally successful in meeting that goal. The coaches hope you understand and that your squid got in some good races in the Wednesday night meets!

Burke Center is going to be a really tough team - they have already clinched the Divisional title as the only undefeated team. BUT our hope is that we use this opportunity to have some great races, get our times down, AND have fun!

There will be NO 6U exhibition events this week. The two teams agreed to 8U, 9/10, and 11/12 exhibition only (it's by mutual agreement that exhibitions are done). Our little squids have done a great job this season and had many chances to swim. We hope you'll join us on the fence on Saturday as our loudest cheering squad!

If you see your squid is slated to swim, but is not available - please let the coaches know ASAP!

SATURDAY SWIM MEET
@Ft. Myer, arrive at 6:45am
If parents on the set up committee could try to arrive by 6:30am and help get the pool set up for the meet, it would be most helpful to us. We will take our dress-up picture at 6:45am and then get ready to swim.

The theme…YOUR COACHES ALL TIME FAVORITE…is 80s. Come dressed in your best 80s attire! I can’t wait to see everyone look radical and gnarly.

Since this is our last regularly scheduled meet, be sure to bring something for your Big/Little! This may be the last time you see them until the Banquid.

SENIOR SENDOFF
Saturday at the Meet
Since tomorrow is our last meet, we will be holding our annual senior sendoff. This is where we will recognize those senior members of our team who will be graduating out. We have 3 remaining seniors to send off: Emma Price; Thad Morgan; and Patrick St. Pierre. As you know from our early sendoffs, one of our long standing traditions is to present them with a bouquet of flowers assembled from various team members who each bring one bouquet (or a handful from your home garden). PLEASE plan to bring something to send our senior off in style – these are all involved members who deserve the recognition from the Squid Family. Also, if you were a little brother or sister to one of these swimmers, please be prepared to be on deck for their sendoff.

DIVISIONALS and Practice Next Week
Starting Monday
The lineup for Divisionals will be going out over the weekend (no later than Sunday night). If you are not slated to swim, you are not required to attend practice next week. There is NO practice for 6U unless they are swimming in Divisionals. Our preference is that the practices from here on out be reserved for our Divisionals swimmers.

The amended practice schedule is:
  • 7:15am – 8:15am, 13 and older
  • 8:15am – 9:15am, 12 and under

The last week of July, we will be holding only one practice for those who make All Stars (the only way to qualify is by swimming in the Divisionals meet and placing in the top 4-6 across the whole league by time). That practice will be from 7:30am – 8:30am.

Wednesday and Saturday Meet #5 Info (and other stuff)

posted Jul 15, 2014, 3:22 PM by Fort Myer Swim Team   [ updated Mar 25, 2015, 7:12 PM by Mark Tramontozzi ]

Although last weekend's meet resulted in a loss, there is some good news to report: Ana Beauvais broke her 50 breast record!

WEDNESDAY SWIM MEET
@Saratoga, arrive by 5:15pm
Tomorrow is our last regularly scheduled B meet. Please arrive at Saratoga IN a toga by 5:15pm. In other words, we’re having a TOGA PARTY for our theme tomorrow!

Important: PLEASE be sure you swim as many events as possible, including IM. If you don’t swim in Wednesday night meets, the coaches don’t know if you are improving your times and moving up the ladder for consideration in Saturday meet lineups. In other words – if you want to try to make the Divisionals lineup, get some great races in tomorrow and Saturday, especially in the IMs!

Our warm-ups start at 5:25pm. Make sure you leave with enough time to get to the pool for warm-ups!
The address of the pool is:
8070 EdinburghSpringfield, VA 22153

Directions: The Saratoga Pool is located within the Saratoga subdivision, about ¼ mile from the Rolling Road exit off of the Fairfax County Parkway (7100/286) at the cross streets of Rolling Road and Edinburgh. Due to construction with the Fairfax County Parkway over the past 12 months, the roads can be confusing, so please allow a little extra time for travel.

Parking: There is a parking lot surrounding the pool. Overflow parking is on community streets that border the pool.

SATURDAY SWIM MEET
@Ft. Myer, arrive at 6:45am

If parents on the set-up committee could try to arrive by 6:30am and help get the pool set up for the meet, it would be most helpful to us. We will take our dress-up picture at 6:45am and then get ready to swim.

The theme…YOUR COACHES ALL TIME FAVORITE…is 80s. Come dressed in your best 80s attire! The coaches can’t wait to see everyone look radical and gnarly.

Line-ups for Saturday will be sent out via FMST email list on Thursday afternoon after we get results from the Wednesday meet.

Since this is our last regularly scheduled meet, be sure to bring something for your Big/Little! This may be the last time you see them until the Banquid.

BANQUID and GEAR
PLEASE be sure to register for the Banquid if you haven’t already. We’ve had some questions about the theme (which is also 80s) – you are welcome to dress up in theme-attire or just wear your favorite (or new) dress/nice slacks/shirts.

There are lots of t-shirts (especially in kids medium) available for purchase. Please see Maureen St. Pierre if you want to buy one – they will be for sale at the gazebo on Saturday.
